John had a detailed conversation about retail trends with Liz Claman at Fox Business Network’s “After the Bell” show this afternoon.
The main take away from the conversation? American consumers are starting to open up their wallets and spend again. We think it’s because retailers are now able to reach their consumers in new, more meaningful ways through mobile shopping apps like ShopSavvy.
We’ve added another talented member to our growing team! Jeff Broderick, former vice president of product at Collective Ray, is the new creative director at ShopSavvy. A Texas native, Jeff began his life in design at just 13 years old. After attending the University of North Texas, Jeff moved to San Francisco to pursue his career in the tech startup world.
Working with tech companies such as Swipely, AppMakr, USFI and Jump.TV, Jeff has made a name for himself in the graphic design industry. No stranger to the application market, Jeff has also created a number of apps including StratusApp and 4cast.me.
His most recent stint as vice president of product at Collective Ray, a San Francisco based interactive agency, armed him with experience building products that solve real world problems. Along comes ShopSavvy, a mobile shopping app that helps consumers find the best deal on the product they need.
Jeff joins our team with the necessary experience and passion to help build technology that arms people with problem-solving tools. He will be a dynamic addition to the ShopSavvy team. Welcome, Jeff!
Our Co-Founder and CEO John Boyd has been traveling to various mobile, retail, mCommerce and app-related conferences around the world to provide his insights and expertise on panels discussing all things mobile. His most recent stint in London at the Digital Services World Congress led to a thought-provoking discussion on mobile wallet and retail innovation.
What’s Happening in Mobile Commerce Today
The panel addressed the mCommerce ecosystem’s critical business, partnership, technology and security questions, as both operators and OTT players begin to implement different approaches to securing ROI through their m-payment propositions.
The program brought together some of the most significant players in the mCommerce value chain: retailers. With couponing, location-based services, loyalty schemes, SMS and QR codes now being adopted to extend brands’ reach to consumers and enterprises, mobile wallet and retail innovation comes at an exciting but yet still nascent stage. Mobile marketing and advertising still has to break down the ‘mobile obstacle’ currently confronted by retailers and brands.
Catch John at His Next Panel
On Monday, John will be speaking here in San Francisco at the Mobile Commerce World conference. His panel is titled “Mobile as the New Engagement Channel” and will be moderated by Parks Associates Research Analyst Jennifer Kent.
Every aspect of mobile consumer engagement, from loading a mobile app to receiving useful and relevant guidance through push messages, must be carefully orchestrated to deliver the quality of experience that meets expectations. Mobile customer engagement must also deliver a new level of convenience enabling customers to respond on their own timetable, using a device that is their preferred communication method. This session will explain the many requirements of the mobile engagement channel.
Mobile Commerce World will bring together more than 1,000 executives from across the mobile commerce ecosystem, including retailers, media and content developers, financial service companies, mobile developers, software and service providers, integrators, security providers, operators, business strategists and other leading companies who are on the frontier of mobile commerce, will convene to explore where business opportunities exist and how to develop an effective mobile commerce strategy.
The Today Show’s Matt Lauer discussed The Secrets of Price-Matching this morning with lifestyle expert Elizabeth Mayhew, and what was her first piece of advice for shopping smarter? Use ShopSavvy, of course.
Many consumers don’t realize the power they wield when they’re armed with a mobile shopping app on their smartphone or tablet. It’s the quickest and easiest way to scan a product, find the lowest price, and show the store clerk to see if the store will match it. Like Elizabeth said in the Today interview, many stores will match a competitor’s price. Some retailers, including Best Buy and Target, are even matching online prices.
ShopSavvy not only serves as a price-matching tool for shoppers, but tells you what you might like based on scans and searches. It’s the perfect shopping companion that saves you money and shows you new products.
An all-new version of our mobile shopping app was launched today on both iPhone and iPad. New features include redesigned navigation, easier list creation and an overall improved look and feel, as well as enhanced exploratory features to find top products within the ShopSavvy community.
The update gives users a “red carpet experience” by taking them through each of the new features step-by-step. We’ve of course retained ShopSavvy’s core value of helping people save money, but with this redesign we’re entering into the larger product discovery space.
Through this iOS update, iPhone and iPad users can take advantage of ShopSavvy’s many new features, including:
• Categories that give users the ability to see the top trending products within the ShopSavvy community, including books, movies, electronics, video games and more
• Cleaner and simpler navigation that provides easier list viewing, product scanning and searching, history viewing and user profile access
• Larger, more prominent and higher-resolution product images to make browsing even easier
• Improved product and category lists through a user experience enhancement that allows shoppers to easily create, view and update lists by swiping from screen-to-screen and dragging and dropping products into the lists.
We’re dedicated to continually improving the mobile experience for shoppers and helping businesses of all kinds bridge the gap between themselves and their target audiences in new and innovative ways. Let us know what you think of the updated app!

The initiative gave holders of Capital One Rewards cards $20 on purchases of $40 or more when they used ShopSavvy Wallet.
